About

About Dr Mohammed Ali Sharafuddin, PhD in Management and Senior Lecturer at the Qasim Ibrahim School of Business, Villa College, Malé, Maldives.

I hold a PhD in Management and teach as a Senior Lecturer at the Qasim Ibrahim School of Business, Villa College, in Malé, Maldives.

Across 24 years I have taught, researched, and consulted in higher education in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Indian Ocean region, teaching in English to students for whom it is a second language throughout. My aim is straightforward: raise the quality of business education, and make the methods behind it usable by people without a statistics background.

Research

My work sits where digital business, marketing analytics, and maritime and blue economy research meet. Recurring methods are PLS-SEM, small-sample and exact inference, fuzzy DEMATEL, meta-analysis, bibliometrics, and structural topic modelling.

The record stands at 24 journal articles and 4 other refereed outputs, with 19 articles indexed in Scopus and a Scopus h-index of 9. Of the 24, 6 are Q1 and 12 are Q2. I have held external research funding across 9 projects, 3 of them as Project Leader, with 1 active on digital readiness and SME competitiveness in Oman’s blue economy sectors.

The research page lists everything, and the software page covers the R packages and browser tools that came out of it.

Teaching

At Villa College I teach MBA Marketing Management and undergraduate modules in Decision Making for Management, Digital Marketing, Project Management, and 2 applied project modules delivered under the University of the West of England partnership. I supervise MBA dissertations as main supervisor, and I lead quality assurance for the School of Business, where I wrote and coordinated the SAQS accreditation the college now holds.

Before the Maldives I taught at Chiang Mai University’s College of Maritime Studies and Management in Thailand, at St Theresa International College, and at institutions in India. I have run 21 workshops on R and open-source research software since 2017.

Why this site exists

Most of what I publish is teaching material or research software that only earns its keep if people can actually get at it. So the textbooks are open access, the R packages are on CRAN under the MIT licence, and the templates and calculators run in a browser with nothing to install. The books, tools, and teaching pages are the shortest routes in.
